Glossary

Cursor aim: center the camera on the target to lock.
Free look: look around without turning the jet.
Padlock: camera stays on the locked target.
Solid lock: missile has acquired the target. Time to flare.
Notch: turn perpendicular to a radar lock to break it.
Rearm ring: circle on the map where you restock missiles and cool guns.
Assist tax / aim assist: reduction in gun reticle help. Stacking too much makes the gun harder to use.
Altitude passive: bonus (range, speed, etc.) that only works while high. Drop and it dies.
Delta wing: trait that often gives strong brake turns.
Cruising altitude / Swing wing: better performance at height on some jets.
A-path / B-path: top row vs bottom row on upgrade trees. String is levels 5-6-7-8.

Merge: The point where two jets pass each other and the dogfight starts.
One-circle / two-circle: Turning the same direction vs opposite directions.
Energy: Speed + altitude. Managing it decides most fights.
Notch: Turning perpendicular to a radar threat to reduce its effectiveness.
Extend: Flying away to create distance or rearm.
Break: Hard turn toward a threat to force a miss or overshoot.
Overshoot: Flying past the target because you had too much speed or the wrong angle.
Bandit: Confirmed enemy aircraft.
Bogey: Unidentified contact.
Fox 1 / Fox 2 / Fox 3: Radar missile / IR missile / active radar missile (community shorthand).

Padlock: Camera locked on a target.
Check six: Look behind you.
Angels: Altitude in thousands of feet (community shorthand).
Guns: Cannon range / calling a gun shot.
Splash: Target destroyed.
Winchester: Out of missiles / ammo.
Bingo: Low fuel / need to rearm or disengage.
Jink: Small random changes in direction and speed to break tracking.
High yo-yo / low yo-yo: Vertical maneuvers to adjust angle and energy in a turn fight.
Scissors: Series of reversals trying to force an overshoot.

Boom and zoom: Dive on a target at high speed, shoot, then climb back to altitude. Favors interceptors and high-energy jets.
Rate fight: A sustained turning battle where turn rate decides the winner.
Radius fight: A tighter turning battle where turn radius matters more than rate.
High yo-yo: Climb slightly during a turn to reduce radius and gain angle.
Low yo-yo: Dive during a turn to gain speed and close distance.
Scissors: A series of reversing turns used to force an overshoot.
Guns D: Guns only, no missiles.
Defensive spiral: A descending spiral used to force a pursuer to overshoot or lose energy.
Snapshot: A quick gun shot taken without a full tracking solution.
Press: Continue attacking an already engaged target instead of switching.
